All legitimate fishing methods are allowed however the use of barbless hooks and catch and release are encouraged and fishing must be consistent with the rules and regulations of the club and current government legislation.

Dundalk & District Brown Trout & Salmon Anglers Association Rules:
1. The Association shall be called the Dundalk & District Brown Trout & Salmon Anglers Association.
2. The object of the association shall be to promote angling in the waters of the district, to assist in their protection and preservation and generally to exert its influence for the betterment of the sport.
3. The Officers shall consist of the Chairman, Hon Treasurer and Hon Secretary, the Executive, five to form a quorum. A vacancy in the Executive may for the time being be filled by co-option. The Executive members shall be elected at the annual general Meeting of the Association. Retiring Executive members shall be eligible for re-election. Elections may be by show of hands or ballot. The presiding Chairman shall have a casting vote in addition to the ordinary one at all meetings. Any member of the committee absenting himself from two consecutive meetings without giving a reasonable excuse shall be dismissed from the committee. All members elected at the AGM must pay their annual subscription before they can sit on the committee. Officers must be serving on the executive (committee) prior to election. If any officer vacates their position they may be co-opted back on to the committee if a vacancy exists.
4. The annual subscription is €10 for Juniors members (up to 16), €20 for Intermediates members (16 - 17), €40 for Senior members (18 - 65), €20 Senior Citizens (over 66 - half the Senior Membership). Single Day Tickets €15. Family Day Ticket €25 (1 adult and 3 children). Members from outside the catchment area of our waters hold associate membership. An associate membership does not have voting rights within the association.
5. The duties of the Treasurer shall be to receive and pay all monies on behalf of the association. All accounts for payment to be passed by the committee. The Treasurer together with any trustee shall have the authority to sign cheques on the behalf of the association. The Treasurer shall keep receipts of all payments. The Treasurer shall keep proper books of transactions during the year, with particular reference to the Cash, Current and Deposit Accounts. The Committee for the relevant year are authorised and instructed to check the balance during the year. A financial statement is to be prepared by the treasurer at the end of the year and which shall be certified by at least one independent auditor.
6. Rivers emptying at or North of Dundalk including water controlled by the Association on the River Fane, Brown Trout under 11 inches (28 cm) and Sea Trout under 12 inches (305 cm) must be returned to the water. Also Sea Trout over 15 3/4 inches (40 cm) must be returned to the water.
7. In the event of any member acting in such a manner as to incur disapprobation of the members the executive shall have the power to call a special General Meeting to consider the matter. At least one weeks’ notice of such a meeting shall be given. If proved guilty the offending member may be expelled by a two-thirds majority vote.
8. Any member found guilty of such misconduct shall be barred from the club.
9. Any member shall not by unnecessary wading, or other means spoil the angling of another member.
10. All members are to see that gates are not left open, fences broken down or other property in any way damaged on the land where fish.
11. Any contingency or matter not covered by these rules may be dealt with on its own merits by the executive.
12. The committee reserves the right of admission to the association.
13. Members of the association are not allowed to fish with more than one rod at a time.
14. No alteration shall be made to these rules except at an annual general meeting and seven days notice in writing must be given to the secretary of any proposed alterations to the rules. These rules shall be in force until the Annual General Meeting.
15. The Association shall not be responsible to any member being refused permission to fish by riparian owners.
16. The general body of the association recommends that members refrain from threadline fishing in the early part of the season.
17. Bag limit (daily) on all rivers is 2 Trout. Salmon fishing on all waters controlled by the Association will be catch and release.
18. Any person fishing the rivers under the control of the club can be challenged for proof of membership and bag limit.
19. Fishing season:
(Fane: Brown Trout from the 1st March to 30th September. Sea Trout and Salmon from the 1st March to 12th October)
(Castletown: Brown Trout, Sea Trout & Salmon 1st March to 12th October)
20. Badges must be visibly worn.
21. All work to be done on waters controlled by the association must be approved by the committee.
22. Any complaints must be submitted in writing to the secretary prior to discussion by the committee.
23. The committee is restricted to 14 members plus officers.
24. Fishing is prohibited from the weir at the bottom of Toberona Pool to the sea until the 31st May each year.
25. Rivers confined to competitors on the days of club competitions.
26. Members serving on another game angling committee are excluded from this committee (except members serving on national affiliated federations or associations).
27. No official competitions to be held on the last day of the season of any year
